Story.

One of Oak Park’s historic buildings stands on the corner of Ridgeland Avenue and South Boulevard. Having been mostly vacant for decades, the building was begging to be gutted and made new. When, in the summer of 2023, it was acquired by new owners with a vision for new life, its redemption began.

The restoration has been progressing since then, with an architecture firm already having moved in, some refurbished apartments coming available this fall, and a French pastry shop not far behind. The building sees plenty of daily traffic and there is growing community interest in what might happen in the remaining units.

Our plan is to open a joint bookstore and cocktail bar in the building that will serve as a friendly community gathering place and a lively cultural presence. We hope to join the other businesses there to create a whole new ecosystem of hospitality in the neighborhood. Still Point Books & Cocktails will be a place to cultivate stillness, friendship, and generous imaginations.

After a year of dreaming and planning, we’re ready to begin renovating the space, and we hope to do it as soon as possible. The Still Point team embodies the kind of culture we hope to create, and we’re delighted to have found the right people for the right roles to make it happen. We believe that what we are building is a timely and worthwhile cultural project and we are excited to share the vision with you.

We’re currently garnering community support and capital investment to help us move forward with this project. You can find more information on this website about what we’re trying to do and how you can partner with us. If you’d like to hear more, please get in touch—we would love to tell you about it!
